Another sunny morning and would you believe it, another late start from the M&S car park. Gary and Russell were back and Flipper's mate Matt appeared in midfield - and not a bad player either.

With the wind behind us and kicking downhill, we really needed to get a comfortable lead first half against a Vintage side that had beaten us twice last season. We started keenly and certainly had the advantage first half, forcing their big keeper to make a couple of useful saves from Matt but we couldn't capitalise.  In fact Vintage came close themselves as Zed's clearance was intercepted on the edge but they failed to convert and Gary's clearance hit our bar from close range - but we got away with it. Flipper also defended well at both far and near posts under pressure (also came quite close with the near post effort) and we were looking a bit uneasy, especially with Mikey limping off after about 30 minutes.

Luckily Danny was close at hand and came on up front to replace Mikey. Danny's larger than life presence started to make a difference in our play, particularly for Steve who got in the way of his close range thunderbolt which nearly put him out of the game.

However, the deadlock was broken on 40 minutes as we broke down the left. A fine low cross from Russell was guided in at the near post by Steve to put us 1 up. Steve required treatment as the dirty wee twat No. 6 took him out as he netted. He was, apparently, also responsible for Mikeys exit.

We kicked off for the second half with Sav coming on for Malcolm who himself had joined the Vintage attack and began to play much better than he had for us. On 55 minutes a well weighted cross entered our box on the left hand side and their number 14 timed his run to perfection and struck home from 12 yards from the left with relative ease to level the scores. Russ attempted to score from the kickoff and rattled the bar with a fine effort.

Down but not out. Excellent play from Matt, Steve and Russell in midfield kept our hopes alive.

AW Version

A bizarre equaliser from Danny followed - their keeper gathered and attempted to side kick the ball up field. He miscued and literally passed to a surprised Danny who was standing directly in front of him just feet away and he gladly tucked the ball away to make it 2-1.

JV  Version

Russell jinked his way forward on the left, and struck a fine 20 yard effort which unfortunately smacked agen the bar, and rebounded out to the right, where the mighty Flipper collected it. He strode forward masterfully, no-one within 10 yards, pulled back the trigger and let it go. Whoosh, not really, more like stuttered towards the keeper at the bottom of his left-hand post. The keeper gratefully fell onto the ball, leapt up, and cleared the ball, Well almost. Unfortunately for him he miskicked it and it flew to the edge of the box about 2 foot off the ground. Then it happened, it was like History rewinding 10 years, Well OK, 15 years ago, as No 1 son just stood his ground, and vollied it straight back into the gaping net. Waahhheeeyyy,  we’re 2-1 up.

Vintage were now turning the screw and as a Vintage corner wasn't gathered under the bar, the ball struck Sav's hands who was standing at the far post costing us a stupid bloody penalty. You've guessed it, 2-2 on the hour as the ball was tickled in off the post.

But the scores didn't remain level for long. More pressure from Vintage drew almost everyone over to our left and a fine cross from the touch line was guided in superbly on the volley by Malcolm from about the penalty spot.

With 10 minutes left Vintage's two elderly forwards broke through our off side trap, teased us with some neat passing and footwork and finally tucked their fourth away off the post to wrap it up.

Sav claimed our 3rd just minutes before time with a nice effort 12 yards out following a fine move initiated down our right but we were ultimately beaten by the final whistle and several sloppy goals.

But 11 goals in 2 games ain't bad!
