It was going to be tough with only 8 players!! When we eventually got
there Frankie and Paul H then got lost going from the changing room to the
pitch. A search party was sent out and 10 minutes later Gary came back empty
handed which infuriated the Timebridge lads even more. In the meantime we
persuaded Timebridge to give us their most unfit player and off we started at
about 11:30 without Frankie who still wasn't ready. Fortunately they were
playing with only 10 men.
We did fairly well considering it was one of those mornings and Marc
should have had a penalty in the first 10 minutes as he came tumbling down in
their box but nothing was given. We held out in defence for 30 minutes with
Flipper playing full back, wing back and right midfield. Some useful saves
early on kept us in the game but we inevitably collapsed, conceding 3 quick
goals before half time. They could have had even more had it not been for a bit
of luck and some awful finishing.
Their ringer went off and he was replaced by a decent center-half to
strengthen up our defence. This useful addition had a knock on effect on the
rest of our side and while we were still kept mainly on the back foot, we were
playing considerably better. Paul H came close with a far post header and Marc
was deliberately taken out once or twice as he sprinted towards goal.
They got their fourth on 80 minutes with a quickly taken free kick as we
failed to sort out our wall with any urgency - but did the ball cross the line?
The ref thought so and that basically finished us off.
